I attended Iowa State University (Go Cyclones!) where I received my degree in elementary education K-6 and an endorsement in ESL.
Throughout my time in college I was lucky to have experience in teaching preschool while I did my studies. I did my ESL practicum in 3rd grade, middle school, and high school. I did my elementary education practicum in 3rd grade and 5th grade. I was very fortunate to have an amazing student teaching experience in 5th grade and in 3-6th grade ESL in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. My first year out of college I decided to get experience by being a substitute teacher for the Minneapolis Public Schools and by being a Para-Educator in a special education classroom in Edina. This past summer I taught English to first graders and to grad students in Beijing, China.
Reason for becoming a Teacher:
I’ve always had a passion for helping others and I knew that I wanted to be a teacher after my younger sister was born. I loved helping her learn and watching her grow in different skills everyday amused me. We would always play school where I was the teacher and she was the student. We would read together and I would even grade her pictures that she drew. It sounds silly now but I didn’t know then that it would be a huge impact on my career choice! I absolutely love working with children and I can’t wait to help each of my students reach all of their hopes and dreams this year!
Interesting Facts and Hobbies:
I grew up in the Eldridge, Iowa where I learned all about the farm life and I grew a passion for all kinds of animals! ~Eldridge is a farming community~ I am a HUGE Iowa State Cyclone fan and football is my favorite sport to watch and cheer for. Tailgating for an Iowa state football game is one of my favorite fall activities!! I love traveling! So far I have been to 12 countries and I backpacked through four of them! I am absolutely in love with the outdoors! If you can’t get ahold of me it is probably because I am up north camping and canoeing.
